About Nate

Nate is a dad, husband, designer, leader, and coach living in Pittsburgh, PA, USA.

Currently, Nate is a principal product designer at Gecko Robotics where he is leading design of field software. The flagship product is Fulcrum, which enables operation of Gecko’s robots by both experts using it for groundbreaking inspection techniques, and novices using it for the first time. Fulcrum is also an extensible system that can be adapted to operation of many types of robots and sensors for collecting data.

Prior to Gecko, Nate was a Product Design Director at BCG X where he led teams designing new products and experiences with some of the biggest companies in the world. His work went across domains such as industrial goods, consumer products and ecomm, heath care, and defense.

As a senior leader at BCG X, Nate helps define go-to-market offerings, sell and scope large scale projects, and ensure successful delivery of those projects—so that they benefit users, client organizations, and our ongoing relationships with those clients.

Prior to BCG X, Nate was Director of Visual Design at MAYA Design, which was acquired by BCG in 2017. At MAYA Design he lead the design group capabilities: UX, advanced prototyping, visual design, animation, 3D, and video.

A lifetime ago, he worked at Actual Size, a Pittsburgh design firm, where he led digital design and development as the firm evolved beyond a traditional print design focus. This meant a lot of poorly coded websites, and lots of terrible (but actually awesome) Flash creations: games, sites, kiosks, banners, and even some nascent interactive installations with motion tracking technology.
